After going through the emotional and physical stress of a divorce and persistent facial acne, I was searching for natural ways to restore my health. My mother gave me a book on macrobiotics, and a friend introduced me to a meal of miso soup, rice, and vegetables.
That same year, I had a macrobiotic consultation with Michael Rossoff and stumbled into my first yoga class, which I immediately fell in love with.
These life-changing events put me on the path of holistic wellness.

The Journey to a Healthier Happier Life
In my early twenties, yoga and healthy eating were the furthest things from my mind. Growing up in Pittsburgh, PA, I had never even heard of a vegetarian, let alone considered cutting back on meat. My lifestyle was filled with disco dancing, drinking, and smoking, followed by late-night meals at a pancake and steak house. I lived for the moment but felt far from fulfilled.
Those weekends of indulgence carried over to my time in Great Falls, Montana—2 a.m. steak and eggs after a night of partying was my norm. I was overweight, out of balance, and deeply unhappy with my body and my life.
By my late twenties, I had hit rock bottom. I was facing the reality that my husband was addicted to drugs, and after our divorce, I found myself back in Pennsylvania, living with my parents.
My once well-paying job was now a distant memory, and I was working part-time as a lunch waitress. To make matters worse, I developed severe acne, and after months of seeing doctors and taking pills, nothing helped.
My face reflected the chaos inside me, and at my lowest point, I even contemplated suicide.
That’s when my mother handed me a book called You Are All Sanpaku, which introduced me to the concept of macrobiotics—a lifestyle rooted in natural health and balance through food. With no other options left, I dove into this new approach, learning that food could truly be used as medicine.
I started incorporating macrobiotic lifestyle guidelines into my life, transforming my kitchen with whole grains, organic vegetables, beans, sea vegetables, seeds, nut butters, and high-quality oils. The results were astounding. Not only did I lose 25 pounds, but my energy levels soared, and I felt more alive than ever.
Even an old ankle injury that had plagued me for over a decade healed completely. What began as a desperate attempt to clear my acne ended up deeply healing my body and spirit.
Learning to find balance through food and lifestyle has been the greatest gift, and it’s what I love to share with others—especially with those over 50, who may feel disconnected from their health or vitality.
The Next Step: Yoga
After experiencing such profound change through macrobiotics, I soon discovered the power of yoga. It helped me open my body, mind, and breath in ways I never imagined.
For over 35 years, I’ve studied with world-renowned nutritionists and yoga instructors, traveling to macrobiotic centers in the U.S., Switzerland, Mexico, New Zealand, and Australia.
I sought out advanced trainings with the best teachers to offer the best to myself, my clients, and my students.
Yoga and macrobiotics have become the foundation of my life. I’ve had the privilege of guiding hundreds of students and clients, particularly those in their 50s, 60s, and beyond, on their journey to vibrant aging.
My struggles with acne and the emotional stress of the divorce led me to a life of holistic wellness, for which I am forever grateful.
